Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is an early favorite to win the White House in 2016, according to a new Quinnipiac University national

Clinton currently dominates the prospective Democratic primary field, with 61 percent support to Vice President Biden’s 11 percent, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s 7 percent and 2 percent support for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The former first lady also bests a number of possible Republican contenders in head-to-head match-ups, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (49 percent to 36 percent), Sen. Rand Paul (53 percent to 36 percent) and Ted Cruz (54 percent to 31 percent).

“Recent rumblings about a Vice President Joseph Biden candidacy aside, she is six times better among democrats than is he and in head-to-head matchups with Republicans she dominates,” Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a statement. “We’ve got a long way to 2016, but at this point she looks very very strong.”

The Republican nomination, meanwhile, has no clear front-runner. Paul currently leads the pack with 17 percent support, followed by Christie with 13 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio with 12 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 11 percent. Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Paul Ryan each garner 10 percent support.

The poll of 1,497 registered voters was conducted from Sept. 23-29 and has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
