In an interview on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition on Tuesday, Hillary Clinton said her most important accomplishment as secretary of state for the Obama administration was to “help restore America’s leadership around the world.”
During the interview, NPR’s Renee Montagne asked, “Is there a single issue that in your time as secretary of state you feel you owned, just owned it?”
Clinton said, “Oh absolutely, but the most important thing I did was to help restore America’s leadership around the world.”
“I think that was a very important accomplishment,” Clinton said. “We were flat on our back when I walked in there the first time. We were viewed as being untrustworthy, as violating our moral rules and values.”
Montagne asked, “This is because of the Iraq war?”
Clinton said, “Because of the eight years that preceded us. It was the economic collapse.”
“It was two wars,” she said. “It was the war on terror that led to some unfortunate, un-American actions being taken.”
“That was my biggest challenge,” Clinton said.
The NPR interview with Clinton is among a string of appearances she has made in recent days to promote her new book, Hard Choices, which was released on Tuesday.
When CNSNews.com asked Republican lawmakers about Clinton’s remarks at the Heritage Foundation’s Conversations with Conservatives event on Tuesday, Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) responded.
“I don’t know that we have restored American leadership in the world,” Labrador said. “It’s one of the reasons I don’t think Hillary Clinton is going to run for president.”
“I don’t think that she can point to any accomplishments that she has had in her career as a member of the Senate or as Secretary of State,” Labrador said.
